DID YOU KNOW THAT...?

  • According to a 2006 survey by the American Hospital Association (AHA), 39% of hospitals in the U.S. offer acupuncture, and 47% offer tai ji, yoga or qi gong. The survey also found that patients paid for most of these services out-of-pocket.

  • In 1993, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) estimated that Americans made 9 to 12 million visits to acupuncture practitioners, and spent as much as half a billion dollars on acupuncture treatments.

  • According to the Journal of the American Medical Association, approximately 42 percent of all Americans are using complimentary therapies like Chinese medicine, spending more than $34 billion annually.

  • The National Certification Commission for Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) estimates that nearly 1 out of 10 adults (approximately 20 million people) in the United States has already had acupuncture to treat a variety of health problems. There are currently about 15,000 acupuncturists serving more than 1 million people per year in the U.S.

  • According to a survey conducted by the Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine Alliance (AOMA), most respondents (60%) say they would readily consider acupuncture as a treatment option if their health required it.

  • One in five (21%) of the survey respondents report that they had utilized some other form of Oriental medicine, such as herbs or Asian bodywork therapy.

  • More than 40 states currently have laws which protect the consumer by clearly defining qualified and well-trained practitioners of acupuncture?

  • Acupuncture (or acupressure) is covered by more than 1 out of 5 employment health insurance plans and is a qualified expense for many health savings accounts (HSAs). Does YOUR health plan cover acupuncture?
