"WHAT ADVANTAGES and BENEFITS DO
EASTERN MEDICINE & HEALING THERAPIES OFFER?"

(HOW MODERN MEDICINE AND TRADITIONAL HOLISTIC MEDICINE DIFFER)

Here we make a comparison only to educate the public about holistic health care. It is important to understand that alternative medicine is NOT meant to compete with mainstream medicine, and Oriental Medicine is not a substitute for conventional health care (one should never deny the benefits of conventional medicine when it is necessary and appropriate).

Modern western and traditional Oriental medicine are complementary.

Modern medicine has reached a high degree of technological advancement, and yet we must admit it has drawbacks and limitations (high-cost, limited access, side-effects, iatrogenic effects, etc.) in working with chronic degenerative disease, lifestyle induced illness, and typically does not address the multitude of factors that often connect an individual to his or her condition.

To receive the best quality of health care possible, I recommend my clinical services as an adjunct to standard health care that is received elsewhere. Not only can the two systems of medicine be combined, they can enhance each others' effects.

The goal of all our wellness programs & clinical services is to make high-quality, complimentary health care available to all in our community, provide needed wellness education to the public, and to help people take health into their own hands by using traditional methods which are natural, effective, safe & nontoxic and suitably adapted for modern lifestyles and beliefs.

Safe:

These all-natural treatments offer extensive scientific evidence that they are safe, natural, nontoxic alternatives, with none of the dangerous side effects associated with conventional drug-based medicine, surgery, or radiative therapy.

Proven Effective:

Healing is a matter of time, but sometimes also a matter of opportunity. Hence medical practice must not depend primarily on plausible theories, but instead on experience combined with reason. — Hippocrates

When conventional medicine has few satisfactory treatments for alleviating nagging, chronic complaints...

Eastern Medicine may be able to help. Why? Because Oriental Medicine offers a fully integrated view that addresses ALL the factors that often connect an individual to his or her condition.

When people discover that I am an acupuncturist, many ask me "does that really work?" The truth is, there’s nothing left to prove: Oriental Medicine has already healed and relieved the illness of a vast number of people over the last 3,000 years! ~ today it still works just as effectively, naturally & safely. I provide gentle, painless and effective treatments that have been shown beneficial for the following conditions, for which conventional medicine often does not offer satisfactory treatment:

Stress, anxiety, depression, insomnia, panic attacks, nicotine, drug & alcohol control/withdrawal

Headaches, migraines and other neurological conditions

Digestive & intestinal complaints and pain, hiccups, ulcers, inflammation of the colon, chronic diarrhea or constipation

Muscular aches & pains including strains, sprains and sports injuries

Sciatica, gout, heart disease, poor circulation, numbness, stroke, certain facial types of paralysis or nerve pain, deafness due to nerve problems, partial weakness after a stroke, inflammation of nerve endings, certain symptoms of multiple sclerosis, epilepsy

Gynecological/PMS complaints & irregularities, menopausal syndrome, sexual dysfunction, infertility, prostatitis, urinary dysfunction

Common colds, flu, allergies, sinus problems, asthma, skin problems

Fatigue, hypoglycemia, hypertension, thyroid disorders, diabetes, weight loss/maintenance, etc.

Holistic Approach:

Conventional drugs often control symptoms, but do not truly alter the body’s susceptibility to disease or sickness.
For example, antibiotics eliminate bacteria but they do not improve a person's resistance to infection; diuretics rid excess fluid without improving inherent kidney function; allergy & heartburn medications may reduce these symptoms, but simultaneously create a host of other side-effects; and beleive it or not, the high prevalence of depression in today's society is NOT from a lack of antidepressants in the diet!

Eastern Medicine is a science, art and philosophy that provides a holistic approach to health care. Instead of treating only the symptoms, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) focuses on reversing the subtle underlying causes of disease to promote lasting health. This is done by balancing the system, rather than controlling or eliminating what is naturally present.

Because it views the human body as a natural environmental system, traditional Chinese medicine seeks to improve, strengthen and balance our inherent capacity to renew our resources, regulate our systems, and conserve our well-being. At the very least, it can make you feel more energetic, yet more relaxed, and it can alleviate some disease symptoms; at its best Chinese medicine can cure or help to cure conditions that have been called incurable; in some cases it may have as good an effect as Western medicines without the side-effects.

The benefits of Chinese medicine will depend on several factors, including the nature of the problems being addressed, the competence of the practitioner, and the willingness of the individual to follow through with various aspects of the proposed treatment plan.

TCM always treats the source of a health problem, as well as the physical, mental and emotional symptoms of illness or disease.

Proven methods of healing treat the whole person by acknowledging ALL factors of health & wellness.

A personalized approach recognizes and supports each person's innate healing abilities & individual preferences; treatments may be combined with nutrition, physical activity, and/or education.

Eastern Medicine acts as a needed adjunct to standard medical care that is received elsewhere, and thus works in complement to offer the best quality of health care possible.

You will have time to discuss your needs and expectations, while I evaluate, assess, and create a comprehensive treatment plan that will support your particular needs for healing & wellness.

Preventative:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To adminster medicines to diseases which have already developed and thereby try to suppress bodily chaos which has already occurred is comparable to the behaviour of those who would begin to dig a well after they had already grown thirsty, or those who would begin to cast weapons after they have engaged in battle. Would these activities not be too late?" — The Yellow Emperor's Classic of Internal Medicine, circa 400 B.C.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just as conventional medicine treats crises with unrivaled expertise…

Oriental medicine anticipates problems and prevents illness by empowering the mind and body to achieve optimum health. By sustaining our internal biochemical environment, correcting depletion of vitality and blockages at earlier stages, greater problems are avoided later on.

Prevention is both cheaper and smarter than standard medical treatments. The high cost of conventional medical care is becoming a very big problem. Sometimes even those who are insured can spend weeks of their time and pay $$ hundreds out-of pocket and still not get any satisfactory results. I will help you within whatever budget constraints you set. Significant results can be achieved with as few as 1 to 3 treatments.

Health care as it is normally considered is essentially "illness care". Putting treatment emphasis on sickness rather than health is not as effective as telling or showing us how to achieve and maintain good health. Genuine health care must be based on an effective combination of preventative strategies, therapeutic techniques, and include the education and empowerment of individuals to make appropriate choices which best serve their personal health and wellness needs.

Self-care Education:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"The doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will interest her or his patients in the care of the human frame, in proper diet, and in the cause and prevention of disease."  —Thomas Edison, 1847—1931

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A large part of the Eastern Medicine approach is having a patient understand their illness, and how they can positively influence the outcome. This helps to eliminate stress and anxiety about the disease itself. Patients are often so focused on their physical complaints, they often ignore their food intake and other pertinent lifestyle factors which can have a significant effect on their state of health, the prevention of illness, and the healing of disease.

As we work together, you will learn self-care techniques and strategies to achieve and maintain your own good health and well-being. Over time, you can gain knowledge of how to maintain your health.

Self-care services include specialized Health & Wellness Programs, classes and workshops designed to teach fundamental healthy living skills to those who want expert guidance in areas such as nutrition, fitness, stress reduction & relaxation, weight-control, menopause, and more. These subjects can have a major impact on health and well-being, and educational services complement the healthy focus that our therapies provide.
