"I first experienced acupuncture in 1994 when I was looking for a teacher or school for further study. Actually, what I discovered from it was that it could treat many other health problems that I had at the time, but never acknowledged. Now I know that most people in our culture truly do not understand wellness as a living experience.
Meeting Eastern Healing... In 1986, Mr. Singleton suffered a torn ligament to the left knee. Over time, the stabilizing structures around the joint space continued to degenerate resulting in damage to the surrounding cartilage, and after 4-5 years he was literally unable to walk long distances or climb stairs without severe pain (he even had to reset the knee joint when going up or down stairs and steep inclines!). After consulting a number of conventional specialists (i.e. Orthopedic surgeons), the same answer was repeated again and again--knee surgery. To avoid this option (he was aware of several people who had gotten unsuccessful results with this procedure), Mr. Singleton set off on a quest for alternatives using his own scientific background and intuition. This eventually led to the study and practice of remedial yoga therapy. After a period of about 1 year, there was no more pain, and the tendons and ligaments had stabilized across the joint. Long hikes, stair climbing, and even jogging once again became possible! Since this experience opened his eyes to different healing approaches, he has been committed to helping educate and heal others using some of the powerfully effective complements to conventional healthcare. Eastern Medicine Education & Training... Mr. Singleton began training in botanical remedies and Oriental medicine in 1991 with local healers in the San Francisco Bay Area like Susan Kaplan (aka Ruby Gold) and Adam Seller (Pacific School of Herbal Medicine). He also studied therapeutic massage with Patricia Kramer (World School of Massage and Advanced Healing Arts) and Rocky Wang (Master of Medical Tui-Na). Mr. Singleton has also been awarded therapist credentials in Swedish Massage, Reflexology, and Craniosacral Balancing and advanced credentials in Thai Massage and Chinese Medical Massage, as well as teaching credentials for Qigong and traditional Thai Massage (Nuad Bo Rarn). Being a longtime student of qigong, yoga and meditation (practicing since the age of twelve), in 1991 Mr. Singleton began his formal qigong training in San Francisco with Karl Danskin (instructor of Mantak Chia's Healing Tao System). After first learning the system’s foundation practices (Inner Smile, Microcosmic Orbit, Six Healing Sounds and Healing Sexual Love—Seminal Kung Fu), and later exploring the secrets of Iron Shirt Chi Kung & Bone Marrow Nei-Kung, he eventually progressed to the daily applications of Fusion of the Five Elements (Taoist Inner Alchemy). Since 1997, Mr. Singleton has studied and practiced E-Mei Medical Qigong with Grandmaster Fu Wei-Zhong. He earned the advanced-level Qigong Instructor title, and received direct permission to teach from Grandmaster Fu, who is the 13th Emei Lineage Holder of the E-Mei Linji Zong (China’s ‘Traditional Life Science, Qigong and Healing Arts System’). His comprehensive training of over 3,100 hours includes extensive training in classical acupuncture and auriculotherapy, Chinese herbal medicine, moxabustion therapy, tui-na, tai chi, qigong, and Oriental nutrition therapy, as well as a year internship in the Texas College of Traditional Chinese Medicine’s clinic and ancillary studies at the London College of Traditional Acupuncture. Western Biological Studies... Mr. Singleton earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Chemistry after studying Chemistry, Math and Mandarin Chinese at the University of Oklahoma in Norman, Oklahoma. After graduation, he worked for several years in pharmaceutical chemistry and manufacturing laboratories internationally, and then onward to pharmaceutical drug discovery research, toxicity studies, and medicinal plants research. From this experience, he developed a keen interest in ethnobotanical medicine and healing. He also has additional western science-related schooling in the biosciences, pharmacology, western pathology, western clinical studies, physical examination and ortho-neurological assessment techniques, and nutrition. Seminar & Workshop Teaching Schedule... Mr. Singleton has been a practitioner of meditation for a number of years. More recently, he also began working with Nancy Good (Infinite Development), a certified Hypnotherapist and professional educator. Since discovering the strong connection between meditation and self-hypnosis, Mr. Singleton developed an awareness of the self-hypnotic meditative state that arises during treatments to help his clients and patients benefit themselves with integrated healing. He has been able to integrate self-hypnosis with many professional therapies for personal healing, and has also had the pleasure of instructing others in the basic principles behind this largely neglected but powerful art of healing. Mr. Singleton is a certified instructor and visiting staff lecturer at Asian Healing Spa & Massage School located in Athens, Greece. His teaching style is genuine, as he transmits his passion and distinct knowledge of classical Chinese medicine into his instructions. Over the years he has taught and lectured before diverse groups internationally, and used these ancient methods to help restore health and wellness to himself and his students. His work continues to be forged by a comprehensive background of more than 30 year's study of Asian philosophies. Dedication and Development of Treatment Strategies... Since 1993, Mr. Singleton has helped many people with a wide variety of complaints by applying naturally safe, nontoxic, time-tested remedies combined with modern clinical research. By selecting from among many effective therapeutic approaches and several hundred kinds of botanical substances to benefit each person, his treatments have helped completely resolve or manage: Most of his clients receive great results and feel healthier after their first treatment.
